RESOLUTE IN RESOLUTIONS

By Michael E. Chidubem

As the clock strikes midnight on January 1st, we often feel a surge of hope and ambition to set new resolutions, turn over a new leaf, and aim for greater things. While resolutions are valuable for charting goals and driving personal growth, we must remember that true success and fulfilment lie in entrusting our lives to God’s wisdom, mercy, and grace each day.

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6 to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” This is a powerful reminder that no matter how well-planned our resolutions are, only God has the foresight and wisdom to guide us through life’s complexities. His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), and He knows the plans He has for us—plans for our good, to give us a future and hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

However, trusting God does not mean we sit idly waiting for things to happen. The Bible encourages diligence and hard work. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” We are called to strive for excellence in our pursuits, yet with the understanding that our efforts alone cannot secure the outcomes.

Romans 9:16 puts this into perspective: “So then it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy.” This scripture humbles us, reminding us that our achievements and blessings are ultimately a result of God’s mercy. It’s not just about our plans or efforts but God’s favour and grace that enable us to succeed.

As we step into the new year, let us anchor our resolutions, dreams, and work ethic in God’s infinite wisdom and mercy. Pray daily for His guidance. Trust Him with the unexpected twists and challenges. Acknowledge that while your plans and efforts matter, they are made complete only through His grace.

So, set your resolutions. Work hard. Be diligent and efficient. But above all, lean on God to navigate each passing day. In doing so, you’ll experience not just the fulfilment of your dreams but also the peace that comes from walking in alignment with His perfect

will. Let 2025 be a year not just of resolutions but of renewed dependence on God’s wisdom and mercy!
