Who is God? (Part 2) His Nature

By Judy Diko

God can be described based on His nature. His nature goes beyond His attributes and characteristics. His nature refers to who He is and what He represents both on earth and in Heaven. Here are a few ways to describe His nature:

ØGod is love

Love is such an important part of God’s character that the apostle John wrote, “God is love.” This means that God holds the well-being of others as His primary concern. For a full definition of love, we can read 1 Corinthians 13. To see love in action, study the life of Jesus. His sacrifice on the cross for the sins of others is the ultimate act of love. God’s love is not a love based on emotions, but it is based on actions. His love gives freely to the object of its affection, those who choose to follow His son Jesus. While we were yet sinners, condemned to death, God sent His only begotten son to die for us. This is the greatest act of love yet known to mankind.

Who is God? (The Kingdom TV)

“God demonstrated His love toward us, in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). To those of us who accept His Son Jesus Christ and the sacrifice of His offer into our lives as our personal Savior, eternal life awaits us when we die one day. However, the opposite is true, if we reject His offer and don’t accept Him into our lives, we will be subjected to eternal condemnation if we die without having accepted Him into our hearts and lives.

Jesus made that very clear. He loved the people that the society rejected. He embraced children. He invited tax collectors to follow him. Sharing God’s love with the lost was more important to Him than His reputation. And in this, Jesus is the perfect embodiment of His Father’s love. For it was God who gave His Only Son, so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). NOW THAT IS TRUE LOVE!

ØGod is Immutable

He is unchanging over time and unable to be changed. Nobody and nothing can change Him. This simply means that God never changes. That is why the Bible says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). Because God has no beginning and no ending, He can know no change.

ØGod is Trustworthy

If we get to know who God is, we do not need to be afraid that He will be different tomorrow or that He would change His mind about anything. Again, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”. God always keeps his promises. Always!

ØGod is Omniscience

“God possesses perfect knowledge and therefore has no need to learn. God has never learned and cannot learn.”  Omniscience means all-knowing. God knows everything, and His knowledge is infinite. It is impossible to hide anything from God. Psalm 139 provides more insight about His Omniscience.

ØGod is Self-Sufficient

The Bible says that God has life in Himself (John 5:26). All other life in the universe is a gift from God. He has no needs and there is no way He can improve. To God, nothing else is necessary. He does not need our help with anything, but because of His grace and love, He allows us to be a part of advancing His plan on earth and being a blessing to others. We are the ones who change, but God remains the same. He is self-sufficient.

ØGod is Eternal

In some ways, this fact about God is similar to His self-existence. God always has been and will forever be because God dwells in eternity. Time is His creation. This is why God can see the end from the beginning, and why He is never surprised by anything. If He were not eternal, God’s promise of eternal life for those who follow Jesus would have little value.

Just studying these few characteristics of my Heavenly Father, makes me want to Trust and Serve Him more, despite what life throws at me daily, despite of how down and out I may feel on certain days, and despite all the difficulties I may go through. At least I know I have an ANCHOR that keeps me Safe!

I would like to encourage us all to go and study the rest of God’s Characteristics. It is well worth the time and effort and you WILL be blessed and ENCOURAGED to know that you and I serve an EXCELLENT, MIGHTY, UNFAILING, TRUSTWORTHY, AND LOVING GOD!!

May you be blessed!
